Getting in the Christmas spirit!

You should see the Riverbank!  It is looking extremely festive, the children have been working very hard to decorate their classroom and have made some wonderful Christmas crafts.

The Rabbits have been getting ready for their Performance!  They have been learning their lines and songs, you are in for a real treat!

The Dragonflies have been learning about the Christmas Story in RE, as well as making some Christmas themed decorations.  Miss Brown was so impressed with the children's snowflakes that she has had to put them up to show them off!

The Otters have also been getting festive!  As well as decorating their tree, the Otters have also made beautiful Advent Crowns!  They are looking fantastic, what else will the children make?

A fairy tale ball, a visit to a Mosque and a big bad wolf!

The Rabbits have received a very important invitation.  Cinderella has invited the Rabbits to a Fairy tale ball, they have replied to their invitation and today is the big day.  They have been busy getting their outfits ready, and judging by these pictures, they will look fabulous!

The Dragonflies have been working very hard in their Literacy lessons to prepare their own stick puppets from the story of the 3 Little Pigs.  The children have also acted the story out themselves and having seen their performance I can tell you that they are fantastic performers!  They will be taking their stick puppets home so they can show everyone their wonderful skills!

The Otters have been on a trip!  In RE, the Otters are looking at Islam.  What better way to learn about a faith that to visit a place of worship.  This week the Otters visited a local Mosque.  The children really enjoyed themselves and were very well behaved.

Next week…

On Tuesday 2nd December is the pantomime “The Snow Queen.”  We will soon be on our way to feeling festive!

Anti-bullying week 2014

Anti-bullying week

Every year the Anti-Bullying Alliance coordinate national Anti-Bullying Week; a week where children and young people, schools, parents and carers come together with one aim: to stop bullying for all.  At Brookside we have been learning about how to stop bullying and what to do if we ever became victims ourselves.  Riverbank children have been making excellent contributions throughout the week.

The Rabbits have moved on from Goldilocks and the three bears, to the Three little pigs!   If you thought the masks looked good last week, then you have to see these!  Well done Rabbits!

The Dragonflies have been exploring punctuation, in particular exclamation marks and speech marks.  The children were finding them whilst they were reading the Gingerbread man.  The Dragonflies have an excellent eye for detail; there wasn’t a single exclamation mark or speech mark that the children didn’t find!  To reward their hard effort, they made some of their own gingerbread men, women and stars!  They aren’t decorated yet, but they look and smell delicious!

The Otters have been busy reading Cops and Robbers by Janet and Allan Ahlberg.  The children have been listening wonderfully and have been answering questions about what they have read.  Good work Otters!

Lest we forget

Lest we forget

On Tuesday 11th November, Brookside observed a 2 minute silence at 11am to remember all those who have lost their life in conflicts around the world, both past and present.  During the assembly the children put coins on a large Poppy.  We raised £79.20 for the Royal British Legion whose work helps to support the armed forces and their families affected by conflicts from the First World War to present day.  The children were exceptionally well behaved and respectful during the remembrance assembly.

The Rabbits have been doing what they do best – getting creative!  They have been reading Goldilocks and the three bears and have made some wonderful masks!  Don’t they look realistic?

The Dragonflies have been showing their sensitive side this week.  As part of our Wild West topic, the dragonflies have been empathising with the Native Americans and imagining how they would feel when the European settlers paid them a visit.

The Otters have been making great progress with their topic of Crime and Punishment.  They have had their fingerprints taken and then copied their fingerprint pattern with the paints and rollers.  They look brilliant!

Today is Children in Need!  Lots of the Riverbank children have come in spots!  Thank you for your donations and effort, it is always appreciated.

It wasn't just the Dragonflies who went exploring this week, the Otters were off exploring too!  They visited the Space Centre in Leicester.  It was a fascinating trip and the children have learnt lots about the Solar System and beyond.

Happy days and sad goodbyes

This week has seen a culmination of everything that the children have learnt throughout the year. It has been a busy week for everyone, finishing work, tidying up, playing with our friends and saying our goodbyes. For the children who are coming back to Brookside they have learnt which class they are going to go into and who their teacher will be. We finished the week with a play day and a picnic in the sun.

This was the last week for four of our Riverbank children. They are all moving on to secondary schools and we wish them lots of luck! We have really enjoyed teaching them at Brookside and we will miss them all.

Next term we welcome four new members to Riverbank. These children will be joining us from different schools and we are looking forward to teaching them at Brookside.

The Riverbank team would like to thank all parents for their support this year and we wish all pupils and their parents a very relaxing and happy summer!
