Science Week!

This week has been National Science and Engineering week and the children in Riverbank have been busy getting involved....

Rabbits have been looking at the life cycle of a frog and have their very own Frog Spawn to make observations of how it changes and develops. They have already seen that the 'black dots' are beginning to grow tails and are getting ready to become tadpoles. Do you know what will happen next Rabbits?

In Dragonflies the children have joined with main school to carry out an investigation. They have met with a surprising character who has a surprising problem for the children to investigate. Can you explain what you did Dragonflies?

The Otters have been investigating as well this week. They have considered what will make a great recipe for a chocolate cake. The children have chosen the ingredients and the method used and the resulting cake looks great! Hope it tastes as good!

Trips Galore!

The Otters and the Dragonflies have been busy on trips last week and have really enjoyed the experiences they had whilst there and the follow up activities back in school.

The Otters spent the day at Cadbury World finding out about the history of chocolate and even getting to sample some!

For the Dragononflies it was a trip to Twycross Zoo to see for real the needs of animals that they have been learning about in their topic. And back in class the animals have been an inspiration for poetry writing this week.

It will be the Rabbits turn next with a trip to the farm. But in the meantime they have been continuing to learn about food and have been describing the taste and texture of various types.

Come back next week to find out more about our fabulous learning!

Half Term Already!

I can't quite believe that it is half term already. This week has seen lots of intersting learning from all three groups in Riverbank...

Rabbits have continued their theme of the Bear Hunt and have looked at all of the places that the family go learning about sounds, colour and texture.

In Dragonflies the children have made jointed elephants to support their learning about animals and then enjoyed some choosing with the knex, which also included joints and movement.

Otters have been learning about special symbols that are used to represent each of the major religions and finding out what they mean to each faith group.

Finally can we please thank you for coming to parents evening this week. We do hope that this was a useful time to find out how all of your children are progressing. Have a restful half term!

An Exciting Week!

The Otters, Rabbits and Dragonflies have been very busy again this week with lots of learning on our topics and themes.

The Otters have painted these super pictures of Penguins to support their learning about the Polar Regions. They have been learning about the features of their habitat and what life is like in the Polar regions.

In Dragonflies our RE lessons have been about religious stories involving animals. The children have found out about the meaning of the story of Noah's Ark and have discovered house the animals were ordered in the Chinese New Year story.

Rabbits have been 'Going on a Bear Hunt' this week and have made super models of the cave where the family first met the bear. 'Quick...back through the....!'

Skipping!

This week has seen our school skipathon in aid of The Brittish Heart Foundation.

The children have all joined in well with a variety of skipping related activities and have had lots of fun as well as raising awareness of a very good cause.

Thank you to those of you who were able to send in some sponsorship money. I will let you know the total in a future post.
